Entry Level

Herbruck’s is a family-owned business who's origins date back to the 1920’s when Harry Herbruck. Sr. started an egg and butter delivery business in the St. John area.  His son, Harry, Jr. and his wife Marilyn move the business to Saranac, Michigan and began raising pullets in 1958.  Currently, the business is owned and operated by the 3rd generation of the Herbruck family and many of the 4th generation are actively working in the business

Today, there are operations in Michigan, Indiana and Pennsylvania employing approximately 750 workers.  The operations house over nine million hens in six main locations all located in Ionia County.  Feed Mill, Warehousing, Fertilizer, and Distribution operations are integral to the operations in all three states.

Summary:

As a Production Operator, you will be working within the barn.  On average, a barn houses around 100,000 hens or pullets (pre-laying age hens) and operators are responsible for the health and welfare of these birds.  As is typical, hens will fly, fluff, cluck, poop, eat, peck and lay eggs all of which leads to a dusty environment.  Lighting and ventilation are used to assist with the behavior and comfort of the birds.  Headlamps are worn by the operators to help assess the status of the birds.  Heated floors ensure warm, comfortable conditions for the birds and the workers.  Operators may be involved in activities which includes barn cleaning and upkeep, providing and checking that proper feed and water is available for the hens, collection of floor eggs, gathering and drying the manure for use in fertilizer productions or maintenance of the aviary, cage and manure and egg belt systems.
